Contacting the team

Please feel free to contact the Year 5 team with any queries - we are happy to help! Send in a note with your child. We are also often available at the end of each day for a quick chat.

Please contact the school office if your message is urgent.

  • Water bottle every day.

  • PE kit everyday (normal days for PE: Tuesday and Thursday).

  • Children may also bring a healthy snack of fresh or dried fruit to eat at break time.

Reading – it is expected that children read at least five times per week with an adult, with a focus on fluency and comprehension.

Spellings - it is expected that as well as completing the weekly spelling grid, children are spending time learning how to spell the set words.

Times tables - as the year progresses, the children’s times table skills become ever more important. Children should be regularly practicing these at home, even if they’ve earned their certificate. The expectation is that by the end of Year 4, all children have quick recall of their times tables facts up to 12x12 and it is essential for the children to continue to practice these skills in Year 5

  • In addition to spellings, reading and times tables year five children will have two pieces of homework to complete in their homework books. One will be an English piece and one a Mathematics task. These are consolidation of work completed in school during the week, so the children should be independent when working on these.
