This page will keep you updated on relevant information relating to English. We will also share some of the fabulous writing throughout the school.
The more that you read, the more things you will know, the more that you learn, the more places you'll go!
At Silverstone CE Primary School we strive to instill a love of reading and writing. We know that reading and writing can open doors to opportunities for children throughout their lives.
From FS2 through to year six our children have so many opportunities to enjoy and progress in their reading. We use a wonderful program called 'Reading Eggs' to develop the children's understanding of phonics. In all year groups the children will enjoy regular 'Book Talk' sessions where books are discussed, understood and enjoyed. Our progressive reading program supports our children in developing their decoding skills - beginning with the Oxford Reading Tree books and progressing onto Accelerated Reader when the children are ready. Our children enjoy browsing and borrowing books from our extensive library and each class enjoys having stories read to them at the end of the day.
From mark making to writing in specific genres, our children are encouraged and supported to enjoy writing. Our teachers work so hard to ensure all children gain an excellent understanding of grammar, punctuation, spelling and handwriting. We encourage children to redraft and improve their writing - afterall authors never have their first draft published!
