Physical Education and Sport at Silverstone C.E. Primary School
We are delighted to have been awarded a Silver School Games Mark for all that we did in PE and school sport last year!
A super start to our new school year. It is so exciting being in our new school with all the facilities for PE. A huge school hall, two playgrounds and are MUGA! (Multi Use Games Area).
This month we started our 'Challenge of The Month'. The challenge was to see how many baskets could be scored in 60 seconds! These challenges are a great opportunity for children to develop specific skills and work on improving their scores over the month. Although a prize goes to our highest scorer we also reward those who show progress in improving their Personal Best scores.
Our first sporting event this academic year was the Sponne Family Year 4/5/6 Five-A-Side Football tournament. We fielded two teams who played brilliantly with our B-Team coming second in the tournament.
We also attended the Tag Rugby Festival at the Towcestrians Rugby Club. We sent two teams of Year 4,5 and 6 girls and boys. The tournament was really exciting and our A-Team made it through to the semi-finals of the competition. Some of our Key Stage 1 children came along to a Tag coaching session.
The Challenge Of The Month for October was to celebrate the Super League Grand Final taking place at Old Trafford and also the Rugby League World Cup taking place in New Zealand, Australia and Papua New Guinea. This was a Pairs Passing Challenge.
At the end of the month some children had the opportunity of experiencing some Sports Hall Athletics. The children were coached by theSponne School Sports Leaders in a variety of avtivities such as javelin, standing long jump and hurdles!
Probably the coldest day of the winter was Sponne Cross-Country Day! This event included races for KS1 and KS2 and thirty eight children competed! We had some excellent individual performances and came second in the 'Small Schools' category.
November's Challenge of The Month was Target Tennis to celebrate the ATP World Tour and the Davis Cup finals taking place this month. This was for the children to work on their return shots by hitting the ball into different scoring zones. Many chose to try this challenge and worked hard over the month to improve their own Personal Best.
We kicked off the New Year this month with the 'Keepy Uppy' Challenge! How ever due to bad weather and rather alot of coughs and colds in school not many people went for this. We also had to pull out of the Sponne Family Five-A-side for Years 3 and 4 due to illness!
The February Challenge was a Speed Hockey dribbling activity which was a great way for our Quik Sticks teams to practise for the 4-Aside competition at the end of the month. Two teams went along to Sponne after school with our A-Tem coming second and our B-Team fourth!
This month is Netball Month! Our Years 4/5/and 6 competed in the High Five Netball at Sponne and again we were so pleased with our teams!
We saw so much progress in our players this year and they played so well. Our A-Team came third and our B-Team 5th.
This month saw our new Sports Crew attending a days leadership training at Moulton College. These children will be our Sports Leaders from September when they move into Year 6.
The London Marathon inspired our Challenge Of The Month for April. Can you run a Marathon? This challenge is to run a mile a day to gain your 26 mile stones to make your complete marathon. We are so thrilled with how many children and staff have taken on this challenge!
